University of Wisconsin Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Graduate Program

2008 Recruiting Dates:

  • 1st Weekend - February 12-15, 2009

  • 2nd Weekend - March 5-8 , 2009

Schedule of Weekends (subject to change):

  • Thursday PM

    • The visiting students arrive on Thursday afternoon or evening, are met at the airport by a faculty member, and taken to the Bestwestern InnTowner.

    • If a student arrives early, student hosts take them to dinner where they discuss the University and the MCP Program.

  • Friday

    • Visiting students arrive at the Medical Sciences Center via hotel shuttle where MCP student hosts meet and greet them.  Each recruit is paired one-on-one with an MCP graduate student. The visiting students are then escorted to the Pharmacology Conference Room where they are treated to a continental breakfast. Then Richard Anderson, Director of the MCP Program, gives a short presentation that includes life in Madison, the UW campus, and an overview of the MCP Program.

    • Visiting students then follow up with 6-7 meetings with individual faculty that they have chosen prior to their visit. These interviews last 30 minutes.  The faculty talk to the students about their research, and students, in turn, can ask questions or talk about their own research. Then student hosts escort recruits to each appointment.

    • The visiting students then have a catered lunch in the Pent House floor at the Van Hise Building with the MCP graduate students and faculty. This allows the visiting students to see the entire campus. The afternoon continues with further interviews.

    • After the students are done with their interviews, about 4:00 pm, the Director meets again with the visiting students to discuss the strengths of the MCP Program and to answer questions.

    • Friday evening the recruits, student hosts, and faculty attend a dinner at Dr. Beth Weaver's home. After dinner, student hosts often times take prospective students out to experience Madison's nightlife.
