Alumni News

  • Jennifer Grant, PhD is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. An award-winning educator and researcher, Dr. Grant has applied her expertise in biochemistry to develop quantitative mass spectrometric approaches to understand the proteomic changes associated with cardiac and neurological pathophysiology. This translational biomedical research contributes to discoveries that increase our understanding of the disease process.
  • She received her bachelor’s degree from the Oberlin College Chemistry Department, and her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School. She just completed a rotation on the Education Committee for the American Society of Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), and is the Founding Chair of the ASMS Interest Group Undergraduate Research in Mass Spectrometry.
  • Specialties: Cardiovascular proteomics, citrullination of proteins in multiple sclerosis, protein and peptide derivatization, mass spectrometry, affinity chromatography, post-translational modifications.
  • Accomplished Curious Stout Innovator program at UW Stout. Read more onpage 9.
  • 2009: Dr. Grant started undergraduate instruction on proteomics June 2009. Her research interests include: cardiac hypertrophy; the influence of gender on heart development; neuroscience, autism and multiple sclerosis; and novel proteomes.

Honors & Awards

  • 2013: NeXXt Fellowship
  • April 2013: iCollaborative Award for Teaching Resource in Chemistry, (Association of American Medical Colleges)
    • Six undergraduate faculty members received awards for the teaching resources they submitted to the Pre-health Collection this winter. These best-of-class resources teach topics relevant to the pre-health competencies, and include examples of resources with detailed faculty guides and independent self-study.
  • March 2013: Milton Pella Grant (Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers)
  • April 2012: Emerging Researcher (University of Wisonsin-Stout)
  • March 2012: Front and Center Award (Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers)
